Czech-Japanese Surgical Symposiums 2023

Between the first and eighth October 2023, the Czech sections of the ICS organized three traditional Czech-Japanese surgical symposia. It took place in the Czech cities of Poděbrady and Uherské Hradiště and, for the first time in history, also in the capital of the Slovak Republic, Bratislava. This mission to Slovakia became a call for the establishment of an ICS section in the Slovak Republic. In addition to Czechs and Japanese, ICS members from the USA, Germany and Switzerland and other surgeons from Slovakia also participated as guests. The professional level of the 31st to 33rd symposium was high in all three places, both in terms of the level of lectures and discussions. Traditionally, the accompanying program was also rich, during which the participants appreciated the beauties of Bohemia, Moravia and the Western part of Slovakia, as well as rich cultural experiences of music, art, history, culinary and more. The symposia were repeatedly visited by the Ambassador of Japan to the Czech Republic and all foreign participants were received in Prague by the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Miloš Vystrčil, who awarded six of them with commemorative diplomas. The traditional collaboration of surgeons from opposite ends of the world, started by the late professors Osahiko Abe and Miloš Hájek, is extraordinary in the field of ICS and strengthens the cohesion of the organization. It is also an example for other national sections.

ICS USA National Section Meeting

Dr. Matyáš and Dr. Nestrojil actively participated in the meeting of the national section of ICS USA in San Antonio, Texas in May 2023.

International scale

The International College of Surgeons is the oldest international surgical organisation. It is the only organisation of its kind that officially collaborates with the World Health Organisation (WHO).

112 countries across every continent

Currently, the ICS has six continental federations made up of 67 national sections in 112 countries across every continent. It is a selective organisation that attends to the high professional and moral qualities of its members. The ICS has had a significant impact on the expansion of quality surgical services across the world.

Oldest in the world

The Czechoslovakian Section (now Czech Section) of the ICS is one of the oldest in the world. As an agent of democracy, it was a thorn in the side of the official political circles under the totalitarian regime. Currently, it is registered as an official citizens' association and its own legal entity.
